QUALIFICATIONS:
Degree in Journalism, Communications or related field;

 DUTIES: Contribute to make WTOP.com the leading provider of timely and relevant news and information. Oversee WTOP’s day-to-day engagement efforts with listeners and readers through various social media channels, including Facebook and Twitter, as well as through story comments. Keep a pulse on trending topics and bring them to life on WTOP.com through articles, polls, surveys and more. Examine emerging social platforms and implement those that offer opportunities for the WTOP brand. In addition, continue to grow WTOP’s followers on all social platforms. Manage breaking news across social media platforms. Communicate & collaborate with digital editors, section editors, reporters and broadcast editors.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  •  3-5 years social media experience;
  • Understanding of social media and its relationship with news consumers, online marketing and Web traffic.
  • Experience writing engaging headlines for Facebook and Twitter.
  • Ability to engage with social media consumers.
  • Experience producing Facebook Live segments.
  • Experience creating Instagram stories.
  • Experience integrating video/photos into social media posts.
  • Experience uploading and managing YouTube videos.
  • 3-5 years news experience.
  • Proficiency in Photoshop, HTML and audio editing.
  • Excellent writing skills under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent news judgment.
  • Attention to detail with content, including grammar, punctuation and fact-checking, and layout.
  • Be part of a team to develop new and innovative content for the Web and on-air.
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced, breaking news situations.
  • Flexibility in work schedule.
  • Work in compliance with Company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a positive and cooperative rapport with staff, management and clients.

SUMMARY:

This position reports to the Director, Web, Mobile & Emerging Media, Digital Marketing, and is responsible for creating and developing content for all social media channels while helping to build the corporate social media channels through: content creation for all social media channels that drive engagement; defining and writing content relevant to the audience on the social channels; analyzing success of social media content and making changes to content to increase engagement; creating contest content for social channels driving to action/engagement; and understanding community partnerships and creating content to drive community commitment to CareFirst.

Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, creating and posting content on social channels; content review and social content changes; understanding corporate social media channels in detail; ensuring social content adheres to social content strategy and writing styles; developing corporate sponsorship social events content creative; overseeing social media content calendars; monitoring social media industry design changes and updates and tracking our CareFirst creative approach to those changes; and understanding the tracking of social content and using knowledge to help drive future social media content creative.

Social media content writing includes the development and writing for social media including writing of posts, blogs, twitter feeds and other content as required. Works closely with the Social Media Strategist to define daily updates and goals, and to set day-to-day project management prioritizations.

Opportunity with WTOP

WTOP2TRAFFIC REPORTER/PRODUCER

To be an effective team member and make a full contribution to the success of WTOP by providing effective traffic gathering, relationship building and team work skills on-air, online, in social media such as Facebook and Twitter, e-mail and text alerts, smart phone apps and all new viable forms of digital media. Reporter will collect traffic information through the monitoring of police and fire department scanners, calls to area transportation, police, fire and EMS agencies to confirm information obtained over the scanner.
Reporter will also be responsible for taking tip calls from WTOP listeners in a courteous and professional manner and getting that information on the air in a timely and concise report. Reporter will perform all job functions in line with the company’s Mission, Values, policies and procedures.

 Come be a part of Washington DC’s public broadcasting station!  As WETA’s new Project Manager, Interactive Engagement, you will manage aspects of website development, content and social media for the award-winning National Programming team.  You will also collaborate with external web content and service providers, including PBS and film producers to create websites and social media campaigns for ongoing series and one-off films; and work with producers and talent to create web-only content for online show promotion that can be used by stations nationwide.  Candidates should have college degree or equivalent combination of education and experience and minimum 3 years of progressively responsible experience in digital media, web development, communications, or related field, preferably within the PBS system or a video environment. Experience must include social media.
