POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of a UX/UI manager, the selected candidate will intern as a team member working with UX/UI design and UI development.  This position will provide the opportunity to learn and experience best practices and technologies on UX process, UI design and development.   The selectee will work closely with experienced UX/UI team, and will primarily focus on one or more projects which will benefit both the selectee and the CareFirst organization.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Candidate will be a UX/UI team member working on design and HTML/CSS/JavaScript coding.
  • Candidate will learn and gain familiarity with UX/UI best practices applied to the projects
  • Candidate will gain familiarity with the CareFirst organization and business

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Major in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors in Information Design, Human Centered Design, Information technology, Industrial Design or related major.
  • Experience and interest in UX/UI design and UI development
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud suite, Axure,  Invision,  UXPin,  InDesign, Just in mind, Sketch, PowerPoint or other.
  • HTML/CSS and JavaScript development skills.
  • Experience design or build web application and mobile apps.
  • Positive attitude, self-starter mentality, and ability to be a team player.

CareFirst runs a year round internship program.  The ideal/preferred candidate should be able to work throughout the academic year:  Fall 12-20 hours/week  and Spring up 12-20 hours/week and up to 40 hours during the summer.

Under the supervision of a development manager, the selected candidate will intern as a team member working with full-stack, enterprise java technologies.  This position will provide the opportunity to learn and experience modern software development practices and technologies.   The selectee will work closely with experienced software engineers, and will primarily focus on a single project which will benefit both the software engineer and the CareFirst organization.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Candidate will be a development team member working on full-lifecycle, scrum-team development tasks
  • Candidate will learn and gain familiarity with Enterprise Java technologies and development practices
  • Candidate will gain familiarity with the CareFirst organization and business

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Major in Computer Science
  • Experience and interest in Enterprise Java development
  • Experience using modern IDEs such as Eclipse
  • Some familiarity with JDBC and SQL
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Positive attitude, self-starter mentality, and ability to be a team player
  • An interest in gaining real-world experience using full-stack Enterprise Java technologies, including
    • Open source Frameworks such as Spring MVC, Spring Batch, Spring Boot, Hibernate, MyBatis
    • UI frameworks such as JQuery, AJAX, and AngularJS
    • RESTful and SOAP web services
    • DevOps technologies, including Jenkins, Maven, Git
    • Automated testing using Junit, Cucumber/Gherkin
    • AIX and WebSphere

Langan has an immediate (commencing employment within the month of January 2017) opening for a Geologist or an Environmental Scientist at our Arlington, VA office.  This position is an interim (temporary / no employment benefits offered) position to last 3 to 4 months and may convert to full-time.  As the successful candidate, you will have an enthusiastic, can-do attitude with strong interest in performing:  environmental site assessments, site investigation and remediation work; soil and groundwater sampling; remedial investigations, design, implementation and monitoring; pilot tests; contractor oversight; environmental regulatory compliance; data management, processing and evaluation; and report preparation.  In addition, possession of a strong technical education, desire to learn, and a professional demeanor is essential.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Geology or Environmental Science;
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0;
  • Ability to commence employment within the month of January 2017;
  • Entry level to 2 years of related experience.  For entry level hires, prior related internship and field experience is plus;
  • Knowledge of or ability to readily understand agency regulations;
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification preferred;
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, judgment and problem-solving capabilities;
  • Demonstrated ability to follow direction and work independently, as well as, in a team environment;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and organization skills;
  • Working knowledge of computers, GIS is a plus;
  • Must be willing to spend up to 90 percent of working hours in the field;
  • A valid driver’s license in good standing and reliable transportation for job site locations;
  • Some travel is required;
  • Ability to work Monday through Friday with occasional evenings and weekends; and,
  • Local resident is preferred.  Relocation assistance is not provided.
