Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) is looking for the best and brightest to join our Team! Acts as database administrator for a Marine Corps-wide data network supporting administrative, point-of-sale, and other core business applications utilizing Microsoft SQL. Duties include installing, configuring, maintaining, patching and upgrading SQL Server enterprise level environments; evaluating, recommending, planning and scheduling the upgrade/installation of new database technologies and architectures; and analyzing and planning for anticipated changes in data capacity requirements. Works with high availability and disaster recovery options such as SQL server clusters, database mirroring and log shipping. Knowledge of backups, data retention policies and procedures, database restoration, recovery models, integrity checks and DBCC commands.
Performs performance tuning and optimization (PTO), requiring knowledge of indexes and index management. Uses native monitoring and troubleshooting tools including SQL Profiler and third party tools such as Toad, Spotlight and Foglight. Troubleshoots and resolves database problems such issues related to integrity, performance, blocking and deadlocking, replication, log shipping, connectivity, and security issues, as well as CPU, memory, I/O, disk space and other resource contention. Creates and uses scripts to meet operational requirements. Develops and documents SQL systems administration procedures, data standards and policies for MS SQL Server databases.
Works within established change control processes and coordinates, tracks, documents and resolves database related incidents, change requests and work orders. Implements SQL database system security procedures and tools, applying information security/information assurance policies, principles and best practices as well as database security policy for PCI, PII and DITPR-DON compliance on SQL Server Systems. Performs other related duties as assigned. This is a white-collar position where occasional lifting up to 20 lbs may be required.
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or Engineering AND three (3) years of work experience in a Microsoft SQL DBA role. Certification in Microsoft SQL Server system/database administration, i.e., Microsoft Certified IT Professional: Database Administrator (MCITP), Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE), or Microsoft Certified Solutions Master (MCSM) is preferred. Involvement with the MSSQL Server Community; membership in PASS, active in forums or newsgroups. Windows Server 2008 or 2012 Certification is a plus; MCTS, MCITP, MVP. Experience with Windows 2008/2012 Clusters, RAID, SAN configurations and Disk/mount point configurations. Knowledge of Windows servers, including Active Directory, proper disk configurations, security delegation, SPNs, and storage components. Experience with BMC Remedy is a plus. Possess excellent communication and documentation skills, including having the ability to express ideas and concepts clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
As an authorized and privileged user of Department of Defense Information Systems must possess or receive Information Assurance awareness by completing the Security+ Certification as a condition of access within six months of employment, and thereafter must complete annual Information Assurance awareness training.
